April Clarke Presenting and Reporting for Griffith University News.

Griffith University: News Production and TV Journalism

Convenor, Lecturer, Tutor and Producer: Chris Mamo

As a Journalist, Film Maker and Educator, I have provided Industry Professional Media, Communication and Journalism Training at Griffith University for over 10 years. My main role was to bring the courses up to Industry Standard.

I initiated the purchase of 'AP ENPS' industry standard software and restructured the TV Journalism courses to actively apply theory to practice with a tangible outcome.

I also brought in Channel 9 Gold Coast Producer, Tamara Hamilton each year to a special lecture, where students could ask all the hard questions about the industry. Students were taught to research, source, interview, write, edit and produce their own original news stories. They were then given direction and tuition on speech delivery and presentation skills and the opportunity to present as an anchor and compile a whole news bulletin.

Each student was given a copy of their news bulletin and is used as a showreel to gain employment.  From this class, April Clarke now works for Channel 9 Gold Coast, and Carley Madsen work for Channel 7 Gold Coast. Jacob Chicco is now Chief of Staff at WIN on The Sunshine Coast and takes on Interns for me.

I was also awarded a Teaching Commendation for this class by Adam Shoemaker, the Academic Provost at the time, who is now Vice Chancellor at SCU.

Southern Cross University : TV Journalism

Unit Assessor: Jeanti St Claire.             Lecturer, Tutor and Producer: Chris Mamo

Presented by Karlyn Major for Southern Cross University News.

I was contracted by Southern Cross University to teach "True Stories: Video Journalism".

The course consisted of teaching how to research, write, film, edit and produce a news story and a current affairs story. I instigated the use of 'New Communication Technologies' such as  apps and prosumer equipment for DSLR's and Mobile phones for Mojo Journalism. This allowed students to produce stories with consumer equipment. I also initiated the purchase of Autocue hardware and software to use the green screen and turn it into a working news room. The result was a very successful whole News Bulletin in the new studio, where every student could showcase their work.
